The Cardington Airship Hangers were originally built in the 1930's to house the huge cargo and passenger carrying airships. Unfortunately the R101 airship crashed on its maiden voyage into a hillside near Beauvais, north of Paris and burst into flame as the hydrogen gas bag ignited, seeing the end of airship travel. The hangers have since been used for several things, including a sound stage for films. Scenes from James Bond and the outdoor scenes for Batman Begins were filmed inside the north hanger.
