'4th Battalion the Suffolk Regiment. The Milita was a haome defence force chosen by ballot with an annual training commitment - an early form of national service. The county militia was raised in 1748 and disbanded in 1908. Its depot and staff quarters were in Silver Street, Ely, and its colours are in Ely Cathedral.'
