Made in 1989 of stained and lacquered ash veneers the cabinet was designed by Shiro Kuramata and typifies the outlook of many contemporary Japanese designers. The minimal aspect comes from both traditional Japanese design and Western Modernism. Its unorthodox shape encourages its perception as a sculpture. Picture taken at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
