The Scarlet Tiger Moth is found mainly in damp meadows, clearings and fens. Its black fore-wings, spotted with white and orange, have a metallic sheen, while the scarlet hind-wings and abdomen, marked with black, scare off predators. The caterpillars feed mainly on weeds such as comfrey and stinging nettles.
