In 1711 William Palmer died and left money for the education of poor children. There have been at least three 'Palmers' schools. Today Palmers 6th form College is the only surviving school to bear his name. Money from The William Palmer's Trust is still used to support the education of children of all ages from the ancient parish of Grays.
