There was a dramatic change in women's clothing after 1795. The rich fabrics and complicated and formal shapes gave way to simple light fabrics that draped easily. These dresses gave a simple tunic type profile similar to those on classical Greek and Roman statues and vases. This dress is of Muslin embroidered in cotton thread. The fabric was from India and the dress made in England. The dress can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
