This engine was used in the workshop of Matthew Boulton, the most famous engineer and metalwork producer of the age. He needed steam power to improve the output in his factory. He was introduced to James Watt. He entered into a profitable partnership to develop and sell the engines with Watt as well as using the engines himself. They were used for many things such as pumping watter from mines.
