The last of the primroses flowering in the woods. A plant associated with the arrival of Spring. It flowers March to June in woods, hedgerows and grasslands. It produces two kinds of flower and seeds are only produced when pollen from one type of flower is transferred to the other. Many early plants remain unpollenated. Ants are attracted to food stored in the seeds and carry them off. In the middle ages it was used for everything from love potions to headache cures. Picture taken at Maulden Woods 10th May 2008.
