Originally the school, built in 1897, was for boys aged 7-15. In 1903 another building was added for girls of the same age. When Ashlyns School was purchased by Hertfordshire County Council and the older children transferred, Victoria became a Junior Mixed Infant (J.M.I) school. Following the introduction of the three tier system of education (First, Middle and Upper Schools) in Berkhamsted in 1970, Victoria was established as a church of England Voluntary Aided First School for children aged 5-9 years.
