From Western Mexico, this species of spider lives in scrubland and desert. It eats large insects, small mammals and lizards. The female lays several hundred eggs. She protects these in a 'silk bag' until after they hatch at 8-10 weeks. Picture taken at Whipsnade Zoo, July 2008.
