In the wild the hippo can be found East, Central West and South Africa in slow flowing rivers lakes and swamps. They eat grass, fruit etc. They can live up to 40 years in the wild. They are the second heaviest mammals on earth and are dangerous. They secrete a reddish coloured liquid from their pores which acts as a natural sunblock.
