Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo). Cormorants are supremely good 'fishers'. They are often seen standing with their wings held out to dry. Most often seen on rocky shores, coastal lagoons and estuaries, but now increasingly inland at reservoirs, lakes and gravel pits. (Cormorants are often confused with Shags (Phalacrocorax aristotelis); shags are smaller and have a steeper forehead.)
