The Wellington Monument, Blackdown Hills, Somerset. The Monument was built in honour of the Duke of Wellington, who defeated the French army at the Battle of Waterloo. The Duke's family name was Wellesley, and prior to being created a Duke he took his title of "Viscount Wellington of Wellington and Talavera" from Wellington, even though he was born in Ireland and is reputed to have only visited Wellington once!
