The Promenade, Cheltenham.

In the foreground is a statue commemorating Edward Wilson, born in Cheltenham, who was one of the 5 members of Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated expedition to reach the South Pole. The team of 5 reached the Pole on 17 January 1912, only to find that Roald Amundsen's Norwegian expedition had achieved the Pole first. All 5 subsequently died on the return journey.
