A map showing where bombs fell during World War Two. Note that within this area there are sites marked where two planes crashed, there were three V1s and two V2s. The V1s were flying bombs, pilotless planes full of explosives, which had a limited amount of fuel; they were launched on the other side of the Channel and landed and exploded when their fuel ran out. V2s were rocket bombs which were launched from mobile launching sites, flew up nearly 100 kilometres into the atmosphere and landed and exploded with no warning. The V1s and V2s were aimed at London, but many landed in Kent and Essex.
