Christian IV had the round tower built in 1642 as an observatory. Royalty, such as Tsar Peter the Great, and other dignitaries reached the top by means of a spiral walkway 209 metres long and wide enough to accommodate a carriage. The fine view from the 36 metre tower takes in the whole of Copenhagen.
