These are genuine Roman coins. The side of the coin on which you see the head of the emperor is the 'Obverse' and the other side is the 'reverse'. The words around the edge of the coins are known as the 'legend' and give details in Latin of the emperor and his reign. The reverse usually shows pictures of goddesses or buildings or anything which the emperor was proud of and wanted everyone to know about - a form of Roman advertising. These coins are made of bronze, but some were made of gold or silver.
