The Georgian Kings brought the first Christmas trees to the English court, but the custom did not take off until Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, who was German. In 1841, Albert set up a Christmas tree at Windsor Castle near London, to remind him of his homeland. The Victorians took up the custom and those who could afford it had decorated trees in their homes.
