The Aliens Restriction Act was rushed through Parliament the day after war was declared in 1914. This statement of assistance dated 30 June 1919 shows the relief paid to the British-born wives and children of two interned German and Austrian men, enemy Aliens, during World War 1. The grants were paid when the women were living in the parish of Cambridge. Note how long the men had been interned and why Isabella Riegler had been paid more relief.
