This plant has small lilac snap-dragon type flowers and grows on old walls throughout Britain. It was introduced into England in the 1640's and escaped into the wild. Once the flowers are pollinated the stalks curve round until the seed capsules are firmly pushed into cracks in the wall where the seeds are released. The seeds are also ridged to hold them in place whilst roots develop. The plant usually flowers May to September. Picture taken at Elstow, Bedfordshire 7th September 2009.
