Ceratodon purpureus is a dioecious (has separate male and female plants) moss with a colour ranging from yellow-green to red. It grows to about 3cm. It is found worldwide, mainly in urban areas and next to roads on dry sandy soils. It can grow in a very wide variety of habitats. It is also known as Fire Moss.
