It is not known when the ravens first came to the Tower of London. Unusually for birds of ill omen, it is said that the future of both Country and Kingdom relies upon their presence at the Tower. According to legend, at least six ravens must remain there otherwise both the Tower and the Monarchy will fall.
There are seven ravens at the Tower today. Their names are Hardey, Thor, Odin, Gilliam, Cedric, Hugine and Munin.
