Designed by Nigel Coates, this chair was manufactured by SPC Ltd in London in 1988 for a restaurant in Japan. It was based on a maker of traditional Windsor chairs in High Wycombe. The sandblasted distressing is meant to evoke a 'rustic honesty', like a harvester's scythe of ash and steel. Picture taken at the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
