Do you think the person who made this picture thought Boadicea was a terrorist (Roman view) or a freedom fighter (Celtic view)?

South Essex has always been a favoured route into the south of England for migrants, settlers and invaders. The Celts, called �Britanni� or Britons by the Roman writers, arrived in Britain around 500 BCE. The Romans were invited to help one Celtic tribe against another, and took over Britain from 44 CE. There is evidence of the Romans marching through Laindon. Boudicca, or Boudicea, an Iceni war leader, led a revolt against the Romans in 60 CE, destroying Colchester, London and St Albans, before the revolt was crushed.


Suggested activities

Prepare a series of radio news reports and interviews about the revolt. Decide at the beginning whether they are for a British radio network or a Roman one.
