Pollard willows, Somerset. These are found in great numbers on the Somerset Levels. 'Pollarding' means to cut a tree back at a height of about 2-3 metres, causing new shoots to grow. When large enough, these willow shoots are used to produce wicker products - eg baskets, fences, etc.
