Quaker School Teacher Anthony Benezet helped forge the foundations of Abolition movement, campaigning on both sides of the Atlantic, setting up a school for enslaved children and publishing, at his own expense, anti-slavery pamphlets. It was his work that inspired John Wesley to move against abolition and on which Thomas Clarkson based his Essay.
