Pyramidal Peak
Goat Fell is a highly glaciated mountain area. The island was a source of individual glaciers that joined the wide mass of ice carving down the thin ford that is now the Firth of Clyde. Resistant rocks have maintained their aretes and pyramidal peaks.

Glaciated Landscape
The peaks and corries of Goat Fell are the highest on the island reaching nearly 1000 metres. The island ice cap was centred here high above the glaciers of the Firth of Forth. Note the Firth of Clyde in the background of this image looking eastwards towards Ardrossan.

Aretes
Further into the mountains, the complex pattern of Aretes seperate cwms and hanging valleys are prominent features on Goat Fell. North East facing corries maintained their glaciers longer and these eroded further back into the peaks and aretes displacing the line of the ridge.
