The bed valance is part of the original set of bed furnishings sent to Garrick by friends in Calcutta, India. They were a gift in return for plays sent to them by Garrick. The are made of Cotton, painted and dyed (Chintz) on the South Indian Coast.

Part of the original set of bed furnishings sent to Garrick by friends in Calcutta, India. They were a gift in return for plays sent to them by Garrick. Bookcases were not usual furniture but may have been used by David Garrick because of his interest in literature.

This was the most copied of all Chippendale designs. Many versions were made by furniture makers in varying quality. The pattern was produced for more than 30 years. The chair is in carved mahogany.

Work and Games Table...
Regency design was characterised by small movable pieces of furniture. The pattern for this table was published in 1823. It has leafy acanthus scrolls and formalised flower motifs. These were standard Classical motifs. The table was Rosewood, with mounts and stringing lines of brass.

Bureau Bookcase 1808...
This bookcase illustrates the mixing of styles that was common in Regency objects. The overall form is classical but it has Gothic style bars on the cabinet windows and the corners of the cabinets carry mounts of Egyptian type figures.
