William Shakespeare was born in Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire in 1564 in the house shown in the photograph to the right.

He was baptized on 26th April, which is recorded in the Parish Register of the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, shown below right. It was customary in those days for parents to leave three days between birth and baptism and because the exact date of William Shakespeare's birth is unknown it was decided to celebrate it on the 23rd April, St. George's Day.
