The buds have long pointed tips. The cones are like long lopsided Scots Pine cones. It is native to central Europe but widely planted in Britain for timber and orniment. The related subspecies laricio (Corsican Pine) is widely planted around Thetford. This picture was taken In Bedford in mid February 2006. The tree was full of cones.
