This village was part of what was to become the new kingdom of the East Angles. King Raedwald was their most powerful ruler. He died in 625AD and is thought to have been buried at Sutton Hoo. Around this time, new Christian settlements around churches and the growth or towns saw older settlements like West Stow become abandoned.
