Pigs were kept, cattle grazed on the low lying meadows and sheep on the higher land to the north. Over 1 million animal bones were unearthed at West Stow, showing the main animals were cattle and sheep, also many pigs, as well as horses goats, dogs and cats. The bones of beaver, heron, swan, duck and goshawk were found. There were no rats.
