This plant was growing on wasteland near an old church. It is most likely an escapee from a cultivated plant. It belongs to the genus Consolida, often classified into the large genus Delphinium. The plants grow in southern Europe and North America. It is a plant of fields, hedgerows and fallow land. There are many cultivated varieties. The plants usually have blue pink or even white flowers. The upper sepal forms a long spur. The petals join at the base to form a spur. The leaves are divided into numerous thread-like segments. Picture taken 19th September 2006 near Elstow, Bedfordshire.
