GOAD maps are detailed street maps showing buildings and their uses. They are named after Charles Goad who first produced these sorts of maps for Fire Insurance companies.
The map shows the greater part of the centre of Chelmsford, and indicates commercial and industrial premises only. Information given includes construction (e.g. brick, wood), use (e.g. cycle shop, warehouse), details of doors, windows, skylights, roof construction, hoists and lifts; location of fire alarm boxes, hydrants, sprinklers, steam boilers and factory chimneys.
