Paul Robeson was a black American singer and actor, internationally renowned, who spoke out fearlessly for civil rights and international peace. He was confined to the US in 1950, so that he would not be able to speak out abroad about civil rights issues in the United States and his passport was not returned to him until 1958. Here he addresses a Peace and Civil rights rally in London, delighting the demonstrators by ending with his beautiful singing voice rolling out across the hushed crowd and passers-by.
