These spiders are also known as Stretch Spiders as they usually give the impression being stretched out which is due to the very long front legs. There are only a few species in Western Europe, and it is very difficult to tell which is which. They construct orb webs. The are often found in gardens and in the countryside. This very small spider is either Tetragnatha extensa or Tetragnatha montana. It is most likely Tetragnatha montana as it was found in a dry area away from water.
