This beetle gets its common name because its hind leg thighs (femora) are thick (in the male). According to the light conditions, it can appear a brilliantly coloured iridescent cyan blue or brilliant iridescent green. It can be found in tress or low vegetation. The beetle is about 9mm long and the larvae live in soft decaying wood. Picture taken at Bromham Nature Reserve 1st June 2012.
