at the bottom. The stem leaves are shorter and more rounded at the base. The flowers are pink in bud looking like a cluster of small grapes. They are purple blue when formed, funnel-shaped with uneven lobes. They have 5 stamens, four of which are long and protruding. The fruit is a rough nutlet. It grows on dry chalky grassland in the East of Enlgand. Picture taken at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk August 11th 2006.
