537 feet long and 189 feet across the great transect. The west potion of the nave, along with the west tower was added later in 1180 and the west porch finished in the 13th century. The original central tower collapsed and was replaced by a decorated octagon tower in 1328. The Cathedral used to be known as the 'Ship of the Fens' when the Isle of Ely was surrounded by Marshland.
