is typically Norman. The was built mainly from flint and re-used Roman bricks, this masonry then being completely covered with plaster and possibly painted to enhance its simple appearance. It was founded in 1103 and was England's first Augustinian monastery the remaining walls dating from the middle of the 12th century.
