with rounded teeth. The young leaves are hairy but the mature leaves are hairless. The catkins are 4-8cm long, pendulous with deeply jagged scales, the males have red stamens and the females purple stigmas. It grows in damp woodlands usually on poor soils. It flowers February to March. Picture taken 3rd November 2007 at Maulden Woods.
