Common Mallow (Malva sylvestris) - Mallow as early as 8th century BC young mallow shoots were eaten and this persisted into Roman times. The Roman Poet Martial used the plant to cure his hangovers and the naturalist Pliny suggested mixing mallow sap with water to ease aches and pains.
