dense clumps on dead or dying hardwood trees. The caps can vary from pale brown to deep blue/grey. It may have a whitish wolly coating in the centre in wet or cold weather. It has crowded narrow gills. Pictured at Old Warden, Bedfordshire - early January 2006.
