Horse Fly (or Horsefly) (Tabanidae).
Male horse flies are nectar feeders, but the female horse fly, which sucks the blood of mammals, can inflict a painful bite which leaves a triangular hole in the skin and can cause a large swelling. Added: 24th Sep 2008 by Deborah Latham
