tidal currents and is mainly cockle and oyster shells. Little Terns, Ringed Plovers and Oystercatchers breed on the shell banks. The more stable parts of the shell banks support a rich flora. The barges sunk just offshore are there to protect the saltmarsh and seawall from erosion.
