Elder (Sambucus nigra) The Elder has just come into flower. A shrub or small tree (up to 10m), elder is common in hedgerows, woods and scrubland. It has creamy five lobed flowers. In late summer / early autumn it produces black edible berries. Picture taken 9th May at Old Warden, Bedfordshire.
