These images show the Lulworth Crumple as photographed from the high western viewpoint of Stair Hole. Here the exposed eastern cliff shows a cross section through the Purbeck rock strata. The fold in the rock was caused by a fault present within the steep northern limb of what is known as the Purbeck Monocline. The formation of this Monocline was caused by a collision of the earth tectonic plates 24-1.5 million years ago.
