The 17th century saw civil war, after a long dispute between King Charles 1 and Parliament. During the English Civil War, the Parliamentarians (Roundheads) and Royalists (Cavaliers) fought many fierce battles. These swords are claimed to have a link with Oliver Cromwell, who became Lord Protector after the defeat of the Royalists. The swords are typical of the type of weapons of the time. The display can be found at the Cromwell Museum Huntingdon
