During the Roman period (43AD -411 AD) Colchester was an important town. Colchester was the first Roman capital of Britain before it was moved to the more accessible site of London. It had a theatre and many fine buildings. Some artifacts such as this mosaic floor, that have been found in archaeological digs, can be seen in the Colchester museum. The museum is housed in the old Castle Keep.
