In Georgian and Regency times in most houses all of the cooking was still carried out in a pot over the fire. The ingredients were usually all cooked in the pot together with a muslin sac or bad separating the vegetables. Picture taken at the Cowper Museum, Olney. The museum was once the home of William Cowper (1731-1800) a poet, hymn-writer, letter-writer and translator.
